CertainTeed Roofing in Del Aire, CA | Barnwood Roofing

We provide independent CertainTeed roofing service across Del Aire, 90251: shingle replacement, flat roof patches, flashing repair, and full re-roofs. Why Del Aire Residents Choose Us for CertainTeed Service

We’re not a factory-authorized CertainTeed dealer, and we’ll tell you that straight. We’re an independent contractor whose crews install and repair CertainTeed Landmark, XT 25, Presidio, and Symphony systems every week on the shallow-pitch South Bay stock. We read CertainTeed’s published installation specs and wind-uplift nailing requirements directly, not a distributor’s pitch.

Ruben Calloway, our owner, learned the trade through Chaffey College’s construction technology program and spent years on roofs across the Inland Empire before starting Barnwood Roofing. He built the company on honest assessment: if a repair holds, we say so. If the roof needs a full replacement, we explain exactly why. His rule is simple: “Tell me what the roof actually needs, then we’ll talk about what it costs.” That philosophy is why Del Aire homeowners call us for CertainTeed sales & service when they’ve been oversold by pushy contractors before. We also offer roof inspection as a standalone service, so you can get a straight answer without any obligation to book work.

Common CertainTeed Roofing Problems We Solve in Del Aire

CertainTeed makes good shingles, but Del Aire tests them harder than most places in the South Bay. If you need CertainTeed service in Hawthorne or nearby, we see similar conditions. Here’s what we see repeatedly on the 90251 rooftops we service:

• Fast-chalking and granule loss on Landmark and XT 25 shingles. The west-facing planes under the LAX flight path take the worst of it. Jet exhaust and marine salt film combine to break down the asphalt surface years before the same shingle ages inland. You’ll see bare patches and a white, dusty residue on the shingle surface.
• Curled, cracked tabs and loosened fasteners on shallow-pitch 1950s-60s roofs. Aircraft vibration and onshore gusts work nails loose and open sealant strips. Homes facing the airport lose shingles from the windward slope while the north slope still looks nearly new.
• Dried, lifted flashing and vent boots at parapets and low-slope transitions. Marine-layer moisture soaks the sealant, then dry Santa Ana winds crack it. Felt gets exposed on near-flat runs where shingles were run below rated pitch.
• Corroded fasteners and edge metal on Presidio and corrugated panels. Salt-laden air pits steel on carports and patio covers, loosening panel laps and inviting leaks at the seams.
• Low-slope rear additions and patio covers failing at the shingle-to-flat transition. These near-flat sections are the first place water gets in, especially when old hot-mop or rolled roofing has shrunk away from the parapet.

CertainTeed Service in Del Aire: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Here’s a fact most roofing pages won’t tell you: Del Aire is unincorporated LA County, so every CertainTeed re-roof on these 90251 tract homes is permitted and inspected through LA County Building & Safety, not a city hall. That changes the work. Because so many of these roofs are shallow-pitch or near-flat, the plan review cares about the low-slope assembly and flashing detail, not just the shingle field. A contractor who doesn’t know how to detail a low-slope transition to LA County’s satisfaction will get red-tagged. We’ve been through enough County inspections on these tract homes to know exactly what the reviewer looks for, which means fewer delays between tear-off and final sign-off. On a shallow-pitch ranch house just off the flight path, our tech found the west-facing CertainTeed Landmark field chalked and curling between the airport-facing ridge and the parapet, with the low-slope rear run over the patio cover already lifting at the flashing. We patched and re-detailed the flat section, replaced the failed vent boots, and re-shingled only the windward planes with fresh Landmark architectural shingles nailed to current uplift spec. County inspection signed off, and the homeowner kept the sound north slope. For a broader look at where we work, see our Del Aire service area page.

CertainTeed Models & Products We Service in Del Aire

We install and repair the full range of CertainTeed systems you’re likely to find on Del Aire roofs, and we also handle CertainTeed repair in Inglewood. That includes landmark architectural shingles, the workhorse for most of the small ranch homes here; XT 25 and XT 30 three-tab shingles on older installs; Presidio metal shingle and standing seam systems on carports and patio covers; and Symphony tile underlayment systems where the roof carries tile. We specify CertainTeed-branded shingles, underlayments, and accessories where the assembly calls for them. But we won’t push a new CertainTeed field over a low-slope run its warranty doesn’t cover. Those sections get a proper flat system instead. If a leak is a boot or flashing, we repair it honestly rather than quoting a re-roof the roof doesn’t need yet.

FAQs – CertainTeed Roofing in Del Aire

Why do CertainTeed shingles on Del Aire roofs chalk and curl faster than the same shingles in Hawthorne or El Segundo?
Because Del Aire sits directly under the LAX approach path. Aircraft exhaust and salt-laden marine air settle on west-facing planes daily, and the vibration and low overflights work fasteners loose. Hawthorne and El Segundo get some of this, but Del Aire’s unincorporated pocket is directly in the corridor. The shingle isn’t defective; it’s just aging in a harsher environment. Call (855) 382-1073 if your roof shows early chalking, and we’ll tell you how much life is left.

My Del Aire house has a near-flat roof. Can you just run CertainTeed shingles over it?
No, and we won’t. CertainTeed’s warranty has minimum pitch requirements, and most near-flat Del Aire runs fall below them. Those sections need a proper flat system, whether that’s a new membrane or a re-detailed low-slope flashing. We’ll protect the warranty by keeping shingles where they belong and using the right material for the flat sections.

Who permits a CertainTeed roof replacement in Del Aire, 90251?
LA County Building & Safety, not a city hall. Del Aire is unincorporated, so the permit, plan review, and final inspection all go through the County. We handle the permitting and the inspection coordination for every full re-roof we do here.

Does the LAX vibration really loosen fasteners on CertainTeed roofs here?
It does. The constant low overflights create a steady, low-level vibration that works nails loose over time, especially on shallow-pitch 1950s-60s roofs with older fasteners. We see it most on the flight-path-facing planes. The fix is re-nailing to current uplift spec where the shingles are still sound.

Can you repair CertainTeed flashing and vent boots without a full re-roof?
Usually, yes. If the leak is at a boot, flashing, or low-slope transition, the repair is often straightforward and the rest of the roof stays. We’ll only recommend a full replacement when the field itself is failing. Call (855) 382-1073 for an honest assessment, estimates are free.
